Basic Biking Guide: From Purchasing To Safety
These days, riding a bicycle sure can be very beneficial. It’s economical as it doesn’t require gas to work. It’s time saving because you can easily pass through even the heaviest of traffics. It’s a form of sport, from recreational to extreme types. And it’s great alternative to keep fit other than hitting a crowded gym.
Now that you’re aware of its advantages, your next move is likely to buy one for yourself. However, there are certain considerations before doing so. Ask yourself: ‘what am I going to use a bicycle for?’ If it’s just for leisure, you can go for inexpensive generic types. But if it’s for sports or working out, it’s best to go for diamondback bikes or other branded ones.
Try to do some researching first prior to hitting your local bike shop. You can use the internet to look for information about all sorts of bicycle types and functions. Write down your requirements, including the style, price, size, brand and the like. Make the dealer aware of these requirements to help you find what you are looking for specifically.
Ask to have the bicycle you’re eyeing for a quick test drive. This is to check if it’s the right height and you’re comfy with handling it. However, you can’t expect to be allowed to test it through mud or dirt trails, such as in the case of buying mountain bike. Never be afraid to ask questions about it, in particular the specs, just to ensure you’re getting the best one for your needs.
Buying some protective gears along with the vehicle is but inevitable. Without these gears, as well as proper biking skills, tragic results may surface. It’s good to invest in high-quality elbow and knee pads. A black helmet will go well with any gender or bicycle type. The protective gears you need to buy and use will depend on what you will use the bicycle for.
There are also accessories that contribute to your safety. Having a headlight and tail light will make you visible to drivers at night. A horn will make your presence more known to them as well. Installing spoke guards will help protect a small child should one rides with you. Having a portable toolkit is also important, should your vehicle need some basic fixing one time.
Before taking the bicycle to a ride, it’s best to know a few important road rules. For instance, you should know that riding against traffic is both illegal and holds lots of risks. Recreation, work out, sports, etc. – no matter what you’ll use the bike for, always ensure that you comply with riding safety measures.
