Go Pro HD Helmet Hero Cameras
Go Pro didn’t go for the 720P market and decided to leap directly into the 1080P era by marketing their 1080P HD Helmet Hero, now available.
GoPro helmet cams have been selling very well for the past two years or so because the brand is very popular with sports and action adventure enthusiasts.
A feature for which GoPro cameras are well-known is the use of a plastic case which enables videoing underwater down to 160 feet.
The POV testers’ verdict on the GoPro Helmet Hero was that the video quality was unsurpassed by any other helmet camera.
While the GoPro HD Helmet Hero is not the smallest or lightest helmet camera available, it only weighs 5.9 ounces so it is hardly a burden!
The GoPro HD has a field of view of 127 degrees which is not as big as some but is nevertheless big enough for most.
Helmet Cameras in general have so far suffered a lot from wind noise but this is an area that GoPro have addressed and initial trials produced a greatly reduced wind noise level.
Another visionary feature is the incorporation of a small slot on the rear of this helmet camera called a ‘Hero Bus’. This means that any hardware options can be ‘slotted in’ thus increasing the GoPro HD’s versatility. For example, one planned for the near future is an LCD Bakpac for on-camera preview and playback.
Initial tests of the Helmet Hero were done in the snow and gave stunning results on a helmet and on a broom pole. Early buyers have used their HD Helmet Hero cameras in various sports and pursuits. Here are some current uses of the Go Pro HD Helmet Hero:
Kayaking, Off-Road Biking, Stock Car Racing, Airplaning, Skiiing, Ice Climbing, Snowmobiling, Rafting, Sailing, Scuba-Diving etc., etc., etc.
Previous GoPro ] worked at 512X384 resolution but the High Definition models give much more for the enthusiasts:
1080P at 30 frames per second
960P at 30 frames per second
720P at both 30 and 60 frames per second
WVGA at 60 frames per second
I have seen a video of the amateur pilot who mounted his GoPro HD helmet Cam on the inside of his airplane canopy, bringing it in to land.
Another user went on vacation to Peru to do some KiteBoarding. He did not have to pay for the trip as he had agreed to take some promotional shots of this new hotel for the proprietor. The problem that confronted him was that his normal, hand-held video camera only had a standard narrow lens. He retrieved the situation with his GoPro Hero HD and, did all of the wide angle shots with it~by using his tripod and tripod mount, completed all of the wide-angle shooting~by just placing the cam on to a tripod using his special mounting plate, produced great wide-angle results for his client}!
